Halloween is one of the most exciting nights of the year—costumes, candy, and glowing jack‑o’‑lanterns lighting up the neighborhood. But with all that excitement, it’s easy to forget a few simple safety steps that help keep trick‑or‑treating fun and worry‑free.

Whether your family is walking door‑to‑door or handing out candy from the porch, here are some easy ways to make sure everyone stays safe.

Light the Way

Visibility is everything on Halloween night.

  • Carry a flashlight or wear a headlamp so drivers and neighbors can see you clearly.

  • Add reflective tape to costumes and treat bags.

  • Keep porch lights on to signal that your home is open for trick‑or‑treaters.

At Buckeye Lake Hardware, we have a full selection of flashlights and batteries—perfect

for lighting your path or powering up decorations. Stop in before Halloween to make sure your lights are bright and ready.

Costume Safety

  • Choose costumes that fit well and don’t drag on the ground.

  • Avoid masks that block vision; face paint is a safer alternative.

  • If your costume includes props, make sure they’re soft and flexible.

Street Smarts

  • Always walk on sidewalks or the left side of the road facing traffic.

  • Cross streets at corners and look both ways—twice.

  • Put phones away while walking so everyone stays alert.

Porch & Yard Safety

If you’re welcoming trick‑or‑treaters:

  • Clear walkways of cords, hoses, and decorations that could trip little feet.

  • Keep pets inside to prevent accidental scares or escapes.

  • Use battery‑powered candles instead of open flames in pumpkins.
